On the surface this Fender Bassman amp from a current EBay auction looks to be a pretty cool old Bassman head conversion. Some of the photos show a potential serious flaw, which should send up a red flag to the savvy guitar/bass player. Can you spot it?
Are we looking at the severely corroded chassis and transformer bells which can indicate this amp being stored in a damp environment.? Or the cardboard wrapped wax capacitors which I’d bet have very high ESR ratings at this point and should be replaced for the health of the output tubes and output transformer.
I’m enjoying learning from you experienced guitar guys.
Great heads up Mike. Exactly what I was looking at as well. Great that we can educate the perspective buyers of older vintage amplifiers knowing that they could of lived in less than perfect atmospheres!
